HOBNOB: The Secret is Out
Paige Anderson has been drawing Hobnob Inn for a little while now. It's a strip that is lovingly drawn about small town folks. Finally, this charming comic strip is out in the world for all of us to enjoy it!

Do not pass this one by!
Paige Anderson's beautiful line art work is enough reason to buy this book but his humour is the icing on the cake. His web site is terrific fun as well.

At last! An anthology of Hobnob Inn comic strips!
Paige Anderson's cartoons are filled with very intelligent, thought-provoking writing. And they're funny! I'm a big fan of Hobnob Inn. I hope this book will be just the first of many!

Author: Daniel Anderson
Average review score:

beautifully controlled poems
The language in these poems is clear, precise, and absolutely gorgeous. But the control doesn't come at the price of emotion; the poems are also deeply felt, sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking. This is a wonderful collection of poetry by a talented young author.

Don't Miss This!
What Anderson does here is remarkable. In this first book he reflects back to us some of the awkward inadequasies with which we all live in a subtle voice polished with undeniable wit. From snipe hunts to Icarus to the all familiar football coach, Anderson has produced a collection that may be his first but promises to not be his last.

Precise, Accessible Poetry
January Rain marks the introduction of a very fine poet. Daniel's poetry is so precise (the meter is nearly perfect in EVERY poem) that one worries the subject matter may suffer. Amazingly, Anderson's poems are filled with images which strike a chord in everyone. "The Last Resort" took me straight back to a vacation in a place much like the one he is describing. And "Snipe! Snipe! Snipe!" starts the reader with a funny, laughable image of a young child trying to fit in but manages to turn to a scene with a lover without hesitation. The concept of a man who never knows when to say when is portrayed in an unusual, yet extremely successful, manner. For those who are loyal to poetry, this is one collection you cannot miss. For those who regard poetry as inaccessible and lacking in reward to those who struggle with it, give this collection a try. January Rain is fabulous

Keys to Successful Writing: Unlocking the Writer Within
Published in Paperback by Longman (December, 1998)
Author: Marilyn Anderson

A good book that makes good writing
The book,"KEY TO SUCCESSFUL WRITING,UNLOCKING THE WRITER WITHIN",by Marilyn Anderson,is a wonderful book that discuss the fundermental steps to writing good and captivating essays. The five steps discussed (purpose, focus, structure, style, and material) and if followed by students or users of this book will lead to unlocking the writer within. The book used students essays to illustrate the need to good writing and an overview of how essays are constructed and presented to attract the readers attention. Most mistakes made by the students were dicsussed like fragments,run-ons faulty parallelism, tense shifts, mixed constructions, and others common mistakes made while writing essays. Parts of speech were revised in details as guide to expose the user to other materials that could make the user essays difficult to read. I have worked with this book for one semester and it improved my writing skill a lot making me aware of mistakes I know nothing about. I recommend this book to lovers of good essays as Mark Twain wrote,"a man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who does not read at all". This book is a must for everyone that wants to improve his writing skill.

this book helped me write an award winning essay.
Marilyn Anderson is not only a great writer she is a great teacher. This book helped me write an award winning essay and got me through grammer which is my weakest area.

I found this book helpful on a daily basis.
I found Marilyn Anderson's book Keys to Successful Writing, quite helpful. The book helped me establish a better understanding of what pro-nouns and adjectives were. I also found that I had no knowledge of what dangling modifiers, faulty parallelism/comparison, as well as others were until I started working on grammar exercises. I also liked the fact that M. Anderson uses essays from her students to illustrate an essay's focus, structure, and style within each chapter on the book. In addition, I've notice that reader has options on subjects to write. By giving the reader more than one option, it gives them the opportunity to explore and acknowlodge their feelings and emotions through a subject that they could relate to. I found this pleasing because few writers agonize and struggle on subjects that they dislike, resulting to a poor written essay. In simple terms, writing on a subject that does not appeal to a writer does not motivate them to write well. The book also reflects on materials that were previously disccused in each chapter, which is good to know, to help us better understand the information and how an essay should be structured. Overall, I must admit that this book has helped me considerable with daily and ordinary English, grammar, and correct sentence structure that benefits myself and for future job assignments.

A Kwanzaa Keepsake (Arabesque)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by B E T Books (October, 2001)
Authors: Bridget Anderson, Carmen Green, and Margie Walker
Average review score:

Three Great Lessons
Bridget Anderson,Carmen Green, and Margie Walker each wrote a fantastic story about Kwanzaa and love. Each lesson on the principles of Kwanzaa help the people to learn a new way to share, and a new way to show love. For those of us who are trying to decide if we want to start celebrating Kwanzaa these stories are a must.

Gets Better Every Time
There are 3 different stories and each story is better than the one before. Highly recommended. I truly could relate to so many of the situations that occurred. It's a must read. It was very informative as far as the celebration of Kwanzaa. I now have a better understanding of Kwanzaa and I learned a lot more about the 7 principles of Kwanzaa.

The Spirit of Love
Bridget Anderson's "Imani" takes city girl Natalie back to her hometown for the holidays after ending a three year relationship with a controlling boyfriend. While helping at her aunt's shop she meets country boy Roderick Taylor who is weary of so-called city life after the woman he hoped to marry chose it over him. Logistics however, can not hinder the budding love between Natalie and Rod as they find themselves faced with a long distance romance. But, the spirit of sharing Kwanzaa with her country relatives helps Natalie make a decision that will affect her and Rod for a lifetime.

Widower, businessman Cedric Hamilton meets teacher Iman Parrish in Carmen Green's "Whisper to Me", Iman teaches more than just the celebration of Kwanzaa to Cedric and his twin daughters. Surrounded by things accumulated with the prestige of his wealth, Cedric learns what is truly important when he shares in the true spirit of the holiday and his heart to the promise of love, happiness, and the family he has always desired.

Margie Walker's "Harvest the Fruits" was my favorite. Free lance photogragher Sterling Washington literally saves journalist Selinae Rogers from uncertain harm. Selinae shares with Sterling the magic of Kwanzaa, and they both share their hearts to the magic of love. Sterling continues to offer his strength and protection as Selinae confronts the demon that has bound her family with 15 years of pain. Together Sterling and Selinae learn to apply the principles of the Kwanzaa spirit for the freedom that promises to heal a family for generations to come.

Leadership That Works: Hope and Direction for Church and Parachurch Leaders in Today's Complex World

Excellent Book for excellent leader!
I have read this excellent book by Anderson, Personally I want to say that this book is excellent and extraordinary. Because of his insight and scholars background plus his background of practical ministry that make this book became awesome. Beautiful insight and the richess of his experience make this book easy to read and nice. I encourage to all Christian leader to read and apply this principle in this book, this is a book for the future leader in this generation and to the next generation. Thanks and God bless you.

Great for anyone who wants to grow as a leader.
This was a great book. I thought of many mistakes I've made in the ministry.

Leadership From One Who Does It and Communicates It!
This book is a steal! Where [can] you get in one place such practical wisdom from a successful, significant, and sacrifical pastor like Leith Anderson. He successfully combines an understand of character and comptence, with a conviction that great leaders have both.

He successfully juggles the practice of pastoral ministry with the ability to write and speak about the broad spectrum of pastoral ministry. Leith is one of the top five communciators about pastoral ministry in North American today.

One quote sums up the book: "Leadership is figuring out what needs to be done and then doing it." [51]

When you read Leadership That Works you are not hearing primarily about the success story of Wooddale Church, you are hearing about the principles of leadership that actually will work for you in your place of ministry.

I can personally testify to the validity of Leith's ministry having heard him speak, engaged him in dialogue, visited with him in his own church for worship, and seen his authentic ministry at work.

The Letters of Mozart and His Family

an unebelieveable collection
This is a wonderful and amazing book on so many levels. I remember when I was trying to get ahold of this book there was an original printing that contained three huge wolumes, it was very expensive, then I saw that there was an updated version in one single volume. It's not easy to find a copy of this book but if you can get one check it out. Aside from listening to his music the only other true way to get to know this wonderful man and his family is through their letters to one another. Anderson does a wonderful job leaving the letters as they were written, and giving the reader helpful footnotes along the way. This book is very thorough and a great read. I would say it is for someone who wants a great deal of detail about mozart's life and times, in his words. I think this is in some ways better than a biography about Mozart, even though there are some great ones out there. This is the closet thing to an autobigraphy of mozart as there can ever be. Sadly, after the death of his father in 1787, Mozart lost his main contact, so we don't always know his day to day activities as we were able to get before then, especially the last three years or so of his life. But to read some of those letters to his wife constanza, or to puchberg, who was helping him again and again with his finances, to me are just heartbreaking. Why is it no one in his time was able to see this man as the unrivaled musical genius he really was??? Through this book we learn about his fears and flaws, his likes and dislikes and the things that were happening during each year of his life. The letters between Mzt and his father are very insightful, whether they are arguing with one another or praising one another. Even though this is a much longer and harder read than a biography might be, the author is the Mozart family, so there is really no way for the book to be biased as an author might tend to be in some areas. Have I said enough to convince you yet??? Go and get this book if you truly love Mozart and want to see him as he really was.

I felt as a member of Mozart's family.
The letters make one feel present throughout Mozart's life. One sees Mozart as a human being, loving and pious but also sometimes mean and petty. I looked for this book for years ( I considered borrowing it from the library and "losing it") and finally found it through the publisher, St Martin Press.Good appendix and notes makes this an indispensible for the Mozart lover.

The only complete collection, in English translation.
This is a much admired and beloved labor of love. Mozart wrote words like he wrote music: full of lively play and energy. His "naughty" letters to his cousin are especially wonderful! How do you translate a long string of nonsense syllables from German nonsense into equivalent English nonsense? Emily does it! And she handles the prolific scatological references in robust 18th century style (no Victorian gloves for Emily!) This should not be out of print, but it is. Please let me know if you find a copy.

Linnea's Almanac
Published in Hardcover by Farrar Straus & Giroux (October, 1989)
Authors: Christina Bjork, Lena Anderson, and Joan Sandin
Average review score:

Young gardeners
... Long before [my daughter] was born I discovered the wonderful books by the two Swedish women Lena Anderson and Christina Bjørk. They have made several books together, one of them is Linneas Almanac.

Linnea is a little girl we meet in several of their books, and in this one we follow her for a year, taking part in all her garden activities. There are 12 chapters in the book, one for each month. And in the first one, January, we meet her feeding the winter birds. We also get to know her best friend, an old man named Blomkvist. We already know both Linnea and Blomkvist quite well, visiting Monet's Garden together with them.(Another book by the same women)

In February Linnea shows us what is happening under the snow during the winter months, in March we can start planting, and then every months comes and goes, each with a new activity.

The paintings are simple, charming and filled with life. Linnea is a girl easy to love, and it is easy to follow her activities following the text and the illustrations. We use this book all year round, and discover old and new treasures every year...

Linnea in love with nature, month by month!
Linnea is delightful and fun and exhuberant. She has energy and zest for life that is wonderfully contagious. Her almanac introduces the calendar year through the exploration of nature. Her happy, enchanting, written voice is a motivator for children like no other. This is a book for learning and loving life and nature --- again and again and again. I never tire of Linnea; her appeal is universal. The only thing that would be better is if she was a real person!

Linnea's Almanac
Linnea is a delightful young lady that finds gardening, nature and life in general interesting and waiting to be explored. She takes the reader young and old alike on a wonderful exploration of nature each month. Her story telling puts the reader in the mood to try the activities she discribes, while providing information and facts for use in the future. The illustrations put the reader into the story and show the finished product of the monthly activity.

I use Linnea's Almanac to introduce each month to my special education students, kindergarden to third grade and they love her. Linnea's adventues have peeked their interest in nature. They have put this interest to use by creating a Garden Learning Center just outside our classroom window, to share with the rest of the school.

Linnea's Window Garden and Monet's Garden in Giveny are also favorites and are used in the classroom. Working with plants and seed was fun after reading about the window garden and Monet has become a familiar artist to the students after reading about Linnea's visit to his garden.

Linnea's books make wonderful gifts for all ages young and old. I would suggest starting with Linnea's Almanac. It introduces the reader to Linnea in such a way that she is an instant friend. Plus, the illustrations are interesting and discriptive even for the non-reader. I have been Linnea's friend for almost five years and enjoy rereading about her again and again.

Little Quack

Authors: Derek Anderson and Lauren Thompson

Ducky Fun.....
"Mama Duck had five little ducklings, Widdle, Waddle, Piddle, Puddle, and Little Quack. They all lived together in a nice, soft nest. But even Mama's littlest duckling was not so little anymore. "It's time to leave the nest," she said one day..." And that means it's time to learn to swim and take that first dip in the pond. All the little ducklings are very anxious, especially Little Quack. But one by one, with a lot of encouragement from Mama, they conquer their fear and take the plunge..... Lauren Thompson's simple, repetitive text is engaging and begs to be read aloud and shared. But it's Derek Anderson's exuberant and playful illustrations that really make this picture book a stand-out. Each large, dazzling spread is filled with bold color, marvelous facial expressions, eye-catching detail, and lots of humor, that makes this a perfect selection for story time. An inventive Quack-U-Lator running along the bottom of each page introduces counting and addition, and just adds to the fun. Little Quack is a delightful, interactive, preschool crowd pleaser that's sure to become an often requested, instant favorite both at school and at home.

A book everyone will enjoy!
The illustrations are wonderful. My 13-month-old loves to look at the pictures. I enjoy them, too, which makes this one of our favorite books. Also, since this book incorporates counting and addition, it will be a book we will keep reading as my son gets older.

Little Quack
Every child's library should have this little treasure! The artwork alone is worth the cost of the book. Derek Anderson's
five ducklings are so humorous, just to look at! Each one being quite different and amusing in its own adorable way with feathers poking up like little cowlicks as they each take Momma Duck's warm encouragement to enter the water for the first time. Oh, how I love this book!

Average review score:

A unique and highly enjoyable experience young readers
Artfully written by Erin Anderson, Look About You: A Magical Childhood In Michigan's Wild Places is a very special picture book meant to be read by parents to their children, and which commemorates and celebrates the joy of seeing Michigan's wilderness through a child's eyes. Soft color illustrations by Mary Fuscaldo enhance Anderson's narrative text. Filled from cover to cover with joy and reverence, Look About You provides a unique and highly enjoyable experience young readers, young listeners, and their parents.

Magic Places
As an artist, I first purchased this book for myself because of the beautiful illustrations by artist Mary Fuscaldo. When I read the text by Erin Anderson, I realized what a treasure it would be for the young (and not so young) people who love the out of doors and the special places we all know and keep in our hearts.

Carol Struthers

A special gift to give to a special child
This is a children's book...but it is more than that! This beautifully written and illustrated book has universal appeal, with messages for any age. When I read it, I thought at once of my grand children and how much I wanted this book to share with them. In addition, I felt I really wanted to share it with friends who, like me, appreciate true beauty in nature, the written word, and in fine art. As a former teacher, I recognize that "Look About You" is a special book that has the qualities we continually seek in a "good" book. You will want to own this book and savor visiting the "wild places" with someone you care about!

Marketing Channels (6th Edition)
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall (03 January, 2001)
Authors: Anne T. Coughlan, Erin Anderson, and Louis W. Stern
Average review score:

Theorical and Practical
This book, containing plenty of cases in accordance with each topic in every chapter, gives readers hand-on perception on how the theory exists within the business world. I especially love chapter 8:"Channel Power", which specifies 5 powers a manufacturer or distributor may owns and how to deploy them properly in different situation or period. While you read, the book keeps you thinking about your own business and desiring to apply these breakthrough knowledge tomorrow, great!

A must-own resource for channel and supply-chain strategy
It's been said that experience is inevitable, but learning is not. The latest and greatest edition of the classic MBA textbook "Marketing Channels" offers distribution and marketing executives a chance to remedy that situation.

Anne and Erin, professors at the Kellogg School and INSEAD respectively, are the two lead authors. So be forewarned -- this is an academic textbook. It's challenging, rigorous, and thought provoking.

The sixth edition is organized around a comprehensive framework for channel strategy. Each chapter walks through a different element of the framework. This approach integrates a wide range of material while making it easy to sample just the strategic topics that are relevant to your business.

Here are a few of my favorite sections in this book:

- Chapter 3 describes a methodology for segmenting customers in a channel. (Namely, focus on how end-user customers buy and what value they seek from their channel. Don't simply measure which products they buy or who they are.)

- Chapters 7 and 10 present frameworks to analyze two common channel strategy decisions - Should we sell direct or use distributors? How many distributors should we authorize?

- Chapter 11 is a wonderful and practical synthesis of Erin's 20+ years of research on creating effective and profitable strategic alliances in distribution.

- Chapter 14 demonstrates how their channel strategy framework applies to electronic channels. (There are many excellent e-commerce examples throughout the book.)

- Chapter 15 provides a great overview of the fundamental issues facing the wholesale distribution channel. It's a dramatic improvement over previous editions of this book.

The book is also chock-full of detailed case studies and examples from a wide range of industries, both domestic and international.

Marketing Channels is a must-own for anyone who thinks strategically about marketing channels and supply chains. As both a channel strategy consultant and one of Erin's former students, I can personally vouch for the validity of their insights into channel strategy. You will not be disappointed by the quality and rigor of thinking in this book.

The book also has its own website , although there is not very much content on the site yet.

Outstanding book on marketing channel behavior.
In a business world that is constantly changing, it is absolutely critical to understand the function and behavior of marketing channels -- that is, the roles that manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers play in the channel of distribution. The businesses that understand these tenets will be able to adapt to changes in the marketplace, and those who do not, will ultimately fail.

This is the 5th edition of the original book that developed the theories that explain the structure and behavior of marketing channels. There is still nothing better. For those who understand the significance of channels, it provides a clear roadmap for the analysis of changes. For those who do not, it will explain channel member behavior and illuminate recent successes due to channel management (Walmart, Dell Computer), so that you can understand how the lessons can be applied to your business.

I recommend this book to all business managers, not just to read once, but to keep in your office and refer to often through the years in order to navigate the high seas of channel change.
